While studying and working at University College and the University of Melbourne I have enjoyed learning and conducting research, and I have particularly developed a passion for teaching. Quality teaching depends on factors ranging from high-level curriculum design to individual student instruction. By completing a Graduate Certificate in University Teaching I am extending my skills across this range of factors. I still find the most satisfying thing is helping students understand concepts and methods that they previously struggled to understand. Hi all!
My name is Evrim Yazgin and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne with the aim of Majoring in Mathematical Physics.
I have just completed a year abroad at the University of California, Berkeley where I was challenged greatly in my physics and mathematical endeavours.
In completing Year 12 in 2012, I obtained an ATAR score of 94.05 including 39 and 38 raw study scores in Chemistry and Physics respectively.
I am able to tutor both units 1/2 and 3/4 in Physics, Chemistry and Methods CAS in VCE.
I enjoy being able to pass on any tips and knowledge I may have to my students. I have made it a matter of principle to make sure that my students understand the concepts rather than simply memorising ‘tricks’ or formulae to solve specific questions allowing for a broader range for application.
I supply worksheets and extra notes where I believe it to be useful. I conduct weekly hour-long lessons.
Not owning a car, I do prefer my students to have their lessons at my house, but depending on distance, I may travel to theirs.

I am down to earth and organised. My tutoring style changes depending on my student; their ability to learn, their knowledge and their willingness to learn. Being a recent High School graduate I understand the pressures or Secondary School and will provide as much assistance as possible to relieve that pressure. I believe homework, practice and revision is important and needs to be done, but not in large amounts at one time. These should be spaced out and done in medium amounts; doing large amounts of homework at once sets students on the path of last minute cramming before major assessments and exams and should be avoided.
I currently attend The University of Melbourne (UoM), and am willing to meet at a library in UoM or perhaps a library in the city if it is more convenient for you.

I’m currently an undergraduate student studying a Bachelor of science degree at the University of Melbourne. I really enjoy tutoring and have started an education elective this semester which allows me to enhance my tutoring capabllities by volunteering as a tutor for people who can’t afford it but still need the assistance. I go through each topic with which is relevant to the area of study and use specific psychology terms such as the ‘self-reference effect’ so that the student not only learns what that means in terms of psychology but it may also enhance her learning. As a result, the student’s sac marks are above average and they were able to catch up to the rest of their class mates even after being away on vacation for a month.
