About Me

***CURRENTLY ACCEPTING STUDENTS FOR SUMMER HEAD-START PROGRAM***

Hi everybody. I am Andy Nguyen, an experienced tutor and a qualified secondary teacher in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Vietnamese at VCE Unit 1 – 4 level, as well as Maths and Sciences for Year 7 – 10. I am also a fluent Vietnamese speaker and I would love to help anyone who is interested in learning this language, either for leisure or academic purpose.

To tell you about myself: I graduated from Brunswick Secondary College as the Dux of 2013 with an ATAR score of 99.15. The VCE (raw) study scores I received for subjects which I teach are:
+ Chemistry (44)
+ Math Methods (44)
+ Specialist Maths (36)
+ Vietnamese (43)

Here are several other achievements I was awarded:
+ Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards in Chemistry, Math Methods, Specialist Maths, English & Vietnamese
+ Participation in The University of Melbourne’s Extension Program in Mathematics
+ Participation in Monash University’s Chemistry Challenge Program
+ Participation in Monash University’s Leadership Workshop for High Achieving Students
+ VCE Top Scorer in Vietnamese

As of 2020, my other qualifications include Bachelor of Biomedicine (with Honours) and Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the University of Melbourne. I am currently a qualified secondary Science (Chemistry & Biology) and Mathematics teacher.

For me, tutoring and teaching have always been a fulfilling experience. It provides me with the opportunity to reflect upon my knowledge, to give back something good to students, and to inspire them with a sense of enthusiasm and commitment. I have a strong passion for education which I would love to share with you, so I will always look forward to supporting you to achieve your greatest learning potential.

Depending on your academic background, I will focus on solidifying fundamental concepts, clearing up misconceptions, and exploring many strategies that help you perform to the best of your ability and avoid making mistakes. For some subjects, I have a vast collection of worksheets and notes, which were personally prepared by myself as practice/revision materials. I am highly approachable and able to answer any questions related to any subjects outside the lesson times.

While online tutoring (via Skype, Zoom, Google Meets, etc.) is currently my preference, I am more than happy to conduct face-to-face tutoring either at your home, University library, or a suitable local library. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to shoot me a message via email or my phone number.

I currently have a valid Working with Children Check and a Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.

Apart from teaching and tutoring, I enjoy DSLR photography, solo backpacking, and spending quality time with my family and friends. I also love getting involved in volunteering and social works, to help people in need and contribute my efforts towards charitable causes.

Srivatsa

Hello, I’m Srivatsa! I am a student at the University of Melbourne in the Master of Science (Physics) program, after having graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Mathematical Physics major) in 2014. I completed my VCE in 2011 with an ATAR of 98.65, and study scores of 43, 41 and 40 in Mathematical Methods (CAS), Physics and Specialist Mathematics respectively. Subsequently, I have taken on a small number of students every year since then for VCE tutoring. If I am provided the opportunity to tutor you, you would not only benefit from a knowledge of the VCE mathematical and physics courses but also a perspective gained from having studied both mathematics and (especially) physics to an advanced level at university. In particular, I feel very strongly that these subjects are taught in a very mechanical way, forcing students to rote-learn key details rather than gaining a comprehensive understanding of the subject. I, however, find that taking the time to provide some simple examples, along with insights into the bigger picture and (not-so-obvious) links with other sections of the course, will reinforce concepts in a much more natural way!

Imogen

As one who values the power and value of the written word, it is imperative to me that all students have the opportunity to glean the most from their experiences in the study of the english language and literature. This is what I seek to ensure as a tutor! Currently undertaking a Bachelor of Arts, I am constantly immersed in a world of analysis and deeper thought and am therefore adept to tackling complex analysis and interpretation problems. As a student of Theatre too, I love working with people on enhancing communication, as composition and articulation are so crucial in presenting yourself. In addition to relishing my studies and voraciously reading in my spare time, I enjoy Producing and Acting in stage performances, writing, cooking, babysitting, swimming, and running with my young puppy. It would be an absolute pleasure to assist in any of your academic needs. Please reach out to me if you would like to seek my assistance. Thank you x

Caitlin

Hi, My name is Caitlin and I am an 18 year old university student at the University of Melbourne who graduated from St Margaret’s school in 2013. I currently work with children aged 5-12 as a Hot Shots tennis coach, a job that I love. It is my aim that after I complete my undergraduate degree to study fourth year honours in Psychology and then postgraduate studies to become a Clinical Educational Psychologist. What I am offering: Tutoring tailored to your needs, whether its help for an assignment of exams or building skills to sustain you throughout your school career. It is my philosophy that to help a child’s education you must focus on their strengths and confidence rather than their weaknesses if you wish to see long term success. I am also more than happy to consult and give progress reports to parents. Furthermore, I also have an abundance of resources (books and notes) and first-hand VCE advice to offer.

Anna

I’m an experienced tutor in biology, chemistry and Japanese who is happy to do individual as well as group lessons. I’m motivated to see you improve in the subjects of your choosing, it makes me happy to see your hard work pay off. I’m also a staunch believer that study time and method should be effectively managed. So many hours have been wasted staring blankly at textbooks. When you learn with me, you will not only learn about the subject but also how to study for the subject. I’m quite flexible too, and will find a way that works best for you. Aside from that, I’m also an avid martial artist and love to read.
