About Me

Hi, My name is Jessica Frizziero. Im 19 years old and currently in my second year of a Bachelor of Arts of Melbourne University. I have always had a keen interest in writing, story-telling and reading and have recently been able to develop my love for this further through studying creative writing, poetry and literature at a university level.

In my experience as being a tutor I’ve found it such an empowering and rewarding experience. I think it’s important to tailor the sessions and approach to the individual student to ensure that they are able to understand and improve their skills to the best of their ability. As a tutor, I strive to create an environment where my students feel comfortable enough to tell me when they don’t understand or need something to be explained in a different way so that ultimately we can improve their marks and create the best results I think this is best created through a friendly and open attitude from both sides.

Fun fact – I am also an avid singer/songwriter and in my spare time enjoy performing lives to audiences at restaurants or bars.

Teaching Experience

I began tutoring in 2015 after the completion of my VCE in 2014. I have worked with students who love English and others who have find it very challenging however I have always enjoyed the process and found it very rewarding.

I tutored two year 12 students from Avila College and in the time that I worked with them was able to change their grades from a B to an A or A+ or a C to a B+. I worked with them on improving their essay structure, formulating ideas and being able to effectively communicate an argument in their pieces. I tailored the sessions specific to their needs and what was required of them to improve their English skills. We set mini goals within the sessions to ensure they stayed on top of the work load and were constantly improving their ability.

I’ve also had the pleasure of working with a Year 9 student in 2015. This student had a particular love for reading and enjoyed discussing ideas regarding novels in a literary sense as well as the themes projected. She seemed to struggle with understanding how exactly one goes about writing a text response and language analysis. I worked closely with her in step-by-step processes to ensure she had a clear understanding of what a body paragraph should consist of, how to write an introduction and conclusion and how to effectively project your ideas.

The most recent student I worked with was a year 11 student of White Friars. Whilst he had worked with tutors previously, both himself and his parents never found any one to be particularly effective. I’m pleased to say in the 6 month period I worked with him, I was able to change his grades from a E- or Pass Grade to a C+ and on occasion B grade. To be able to assist him in this manner was a truly rewarding experience.
